Culver Town Council Considers Donation to Marshall County Council on Aging

The Marshall County Council on Aging is stepping up efforts to gather funds for transportation services for the county’s veterans, disabled, and older population.

Jackie Wright from the Marshall County Council on Aging explained to the Culver Town Council members Tuesday night that the organization wants to meet the growing needs of the public and more funding can help expand routes and possibly add another route to service community members. She said that they had over 600 denials last year as not all requests could be handled due to availability.

The health care field also has the transportation officials escorting residents all over the state to see specialists and other follow-up medical care which limits availability.

The Marshall County Council on Aging does receive grant funds from the Indiana Department of Transportation and the Older Americans Act in addition to donations from Marshall County and the City of Plymouth.

Wright said she is visiting each government agency and veteran’s organization to gather funds to help sustain and increase services to the residents of Marshall County. Her first stop was to the Culver Town Council. Wright asked for $1,000-$3,000 from the town to assist in the effort. There is a van that travels to Culver on Wednesdays every week to answer the need of citizens.

The Culver Town Council members unanimously approved an appropriation of $3,000 for the Marshall County Council on Aging to help with transportation needs. The appropriation will be advertised and Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim will review which fund will support the appropriation.
