Challenges Arise in Plymouth City Hall Renovation Project

Plymouth City Building

The companies working on the Plymouth City Hall renovation project have encountered some challenges.

Tyler Kelsey from RQAW told the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members on Tuesday night that demolition work is nearly complete and new construction is happening on the second floor of the city building.

“Demolition is about 95 percent complete,” explained Kelsey. “There are some areas of masonry that are still being cut out to allow for the appropriator to accommodate the new floor plan layout. New walls are up and about 50 percent of the new stud framing is up. The HVAC is about 75 percent in the second floor area. It has penetrated down to the first floor area and it is about 30 to 35 percent complete there.”

He says it’s been somewhat of a challenging project, especially with the connection with the chamber of commerce building.

“As you can imagine, it’s been challenging because of the complexities of the age of the building. Taking a pre-1900 building and renovating it entirely presents certain sets of challenges.”

The project is on track to be complete in June.
