The Plymouth City Council members considered a resolution Monday night to transfer cash from the City Development Fund to the Safe Routes to School Fund.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi said that when the project was awarded the grant, funds were transferred to cover the city’s commitment of 20 percent for the Safe Routes to School grant. Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver explained that the city pays the invoices for the project and then the Indiana Department of Transportation reimburses 80 percent of the project. She said the Safe Routes to School Fund is in the red until INDOT reimburses the city with its share. She went on to say that funds can’t be in the red in any fund and now that the project is finished, there is a shortage of cash and the transfer is necessary to ensure the fund is in the black.
The council members unanimously approved the resolution that authorizes the transfer of $40,000 from the City Development Fund to the Safe Routes to School Fund.
