Earlier this year, young Marshall County students had the opportunity to tour college campuses as a part of the Marshall County Promise Program.
Triton Superintendent Donna Burroughs said that a big focus of the program is getting kids to start considering college and saving for it ahead of time.
Triton schools have a special account established at the Marshall County Community Foundation that provides $25 worth of seed money to parents who start 529 savings accounts for their child’s secondary education.
On Tuesday, November 28th, Burroughs said the school system has a chance to double the amount of donations they receive, thanks to an offer from an organization based in the Nation’s capital.
“We have an opportunity on national giving day which is the Tuesday after thanksgiving.” Burroughs explained, There’s an organization in Washington D.C. that has pledged to match every dollar that we can collect on that day with another dollar, it’s a one to one matching opportunity.”
Superintendent Burroughs went on to say it’s always nice when funds from outside sources can assist kids within the county so the responsibility doesn’t fall solely on local community members.
