Local and county officials, Marshall County Economic Development Corporation representatives, engineers and other project partners helped break ground for construction of a manufacturing facility in Argos.
The building will be the first on a new 80-acre industrial park on Dewey Street in Argos. Right now the space looks like an empty corn field, but that empty ground will be filled with the sight of an expanding economy and jobs.
The 50,000 square foot structure is expected to spur capital by meeting the needs of the manufacturing industry. The building can be expanded to 300,000 square feet. The total cost was $2.77 million with $400,000 in Regional Cities funding. A loan from Lake City Bank helped the Town of Argos with this endeavor. A rail spur will be added to the area to assist with transportation of product in future plans.
Argos Town Council President Dustin Johnson thanked the previous town council members for their efforts in purchasing the land at a cost of $600,000. Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer praised the town council for setting up Marshall County to be a driving force in attracting industry and jobs.
The project is expected to be complete by early 2018.
