The Marshall County Commissioners are making a request to the Indiana Department of Transportation for use of the abandoned sub district station by the Tri-way Golf Course off of old U.S. 31.
INDOT built a brand new sub district station in Plymouth just north of U.S. 30 off of Pioneer Drive.
The commissioners plan to ask to lease the property for $1 a year. The county would take on the insurance of property there, but would not have ownership or the worry of liability.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer thinks it’s a positive move for the highway department.
“I think it would be a good thing for our highway department to have, especially for the Town of La Paz because that is where they get their salt and sand, and other materials from the state highway,” said Overmyer. “Sometimes winters up north in the county are worse. We could use it for storage so our drivers wouldn’t have to drive all the way back to Plymouth to get reloaded to continue plowing snow and salting roads in the northern part of the county.”
The commissioners authorized County Attorney Jim Clevenger to send a request letter to the La Porte District officials with INDOT.
