The Marshall County Commissioners will be looking for a new highway administrator in the next few weeks. Laurie Baker submitted her resignation on Monday morning during the commissioners meeting that is effective Friday, Dec. 29.
Baker stated that she’s had a great experience working with the county in different aspects for a total of 15 years, but she’s looking forward to moving in a different direction and focusing on family time out of the area.
She said she was hired 11 years ago on Monday’s date to work in the court system and then moved out to the highway department as the highway administrator in 2014.
“I am not unhappy with what we’ve accomplished,” stated Baker. “The highway is a hard department because of funding and because everybody wants perfect roads and that’s never going to be possible to do that. There’s just not the money in the county. I do appreciate the support we’ve had and I thank you for what it’s provided for me and my family because Marshall County has provided a lot of things for us.”
The commissioners commended Baker for her work with the highway department and the work that both Baker and Highway Supervisor Jason Peters have done to build up the department to where it is today. Baker said that it was a collaborative effort between the county government bodies and the highway department.
The commissioners did accept Baker’s resignation and they will be reviewing the job description and send out a notice for candidates after the next commissioners meeting on Monday, Nov. 20.
