Jason Durr from the Christopher Burke Engineering firm in South Bend requested GIS information on behalf of the Kankakee River Basin Commission.
Durr told the Marshall County Commissioners last week that the information will be used as a preliminary evaluation on basin assessment areas. He requested parcel data for the whole county, but the parcels directly affected by the Kankakee River Basin Commission may only be analyzed.
He explained that the state is looking to dissolve the KRBC funding in the state’s budget and the engineering firm will determine options on how to move forward if the state makes that decision. He said no taxes or assessments have been decided at this point, but the members of the KRBC may need to provide matching funds or some sort of funding mechanism to keep the commission solvent.
County Attorney Jim Clevenger said the engineering firm would need to sign an agreement that outlines certain restrictions when given parcel data.
The commissioners approved a motion to allow the request and waive the $15,000 fee for the action. The contract will be reviewed at their next meeting on Dec. 4.
