John Glenn School Board Discusses Teacher Contract

The John Glenn School Board members discussed the proposed Master Teacher Contract Tuesday night as ratified by the John Glenn Education Association.

Superintendent Richard Reese said the association came to an agreement on a two-year contract.

“We were able to raise our minimum salary up to $36,000,” explained Reese. “We had been at $34,400 or in that range. This gives us the ability to retain and attract young talent. No teacher will get less than $500 wherever they’re at from this year to next year. Some will get more than that as they are brought up to $36,000 and that could be combination of a stipend and addition to the base.”

The contract also eliminates the Spanish club at the elementary school and adds a robotics coach at the same pay. The web master and the choir teachers also received a pay increase as recommended by the teacher association.

The Teacher Appreciation Grant will also benefit the current teachers based on the ADM count. It is $30 per student and the corporation has just over 1,900 students. Superintendent Reese said that money will amount to about $500 per teacher and it could be more if the teacher was deemed effective or highly effective in recent evaluations.

Board member William Groves commended the teacher’s association for working to increase the base pay to help “keep good teachers”. Board President Jeff Johnson said that was the major goal and it was achieved.

The board members did approve the Master Teacher Contract with a unanimous vote.
