The Marshall County Council members were tasked with approving the transfer of funds to ensure payment of utilities at the Shady Rest Home and for other county facilities for the remainder of the year.
The county received the operation of the county home on Lincoln Highway in August when the Bowen Center decided to cease operations at the facility. The structure has been vacant since that time, but a nine-member Shady Rest Home committee is working to find a tenant to bring needed services to aid the residents of Marshall County.
The committee will review a business plan and learn more about the status of a proposal presented by Ted Hayden and Gregg Erickson for an addiction recovery service. The committee is concerned about the future sustainability of this operation at the Shady Rest Home. They hope to gather more information when the committee meets again on Tuesday, Nov, 28 at 2 p.m. in the second floor meeting room in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth.
In the meantime, the county has to maintain utility service to the building and get it winterized for the season. In order to ensure there are enough funds to cover the utility costs at Shady Rest and at the other county facilities, the county council members approved the transfer of $45,000 from insurance to utilities in the commissioner’s budget. Auditor Julie Fox mentioned that the money is to cover anticipated costs. The transfer was unanimously approved.
