Information Tidbits from the Marshall County Commissioners

The Marshall County Commissioners discussed a few items Monday.

Highway Superintendent Jason Peters will work with a property owner on 2B Road concerning a drainage issue off the road. An investigation will be held into who is responsible for replacing the tile in that area as it appears to have failed. Further discussion will be held during the commissioners’ next meeting on Monday, Dec. 4.

The commissioners approved a grant request from Marshall County Community Corrections Director Ward Byers to apply for grant funds for Fiscal Year 2019. He said the budget of around $403,100 is for the jail treatment program, community corrections and the prosecutor’s felony diversion program. The council also previously approved this request.

Shannon McLoed from Priority Project Resources, acting on behalf of the Marshall County 4-H Fair Board, asked to apply for the second round of grant funds from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA). The board is applying for a grant worth $500,000 for the construction of a multi-purpose building in the Town of Argos on the fairgrounds. The cost of the construction of the building is $800,000. The board is hopeful for the $500,000 OCRA grant and the members are continuing their efforts in raising funds for the rest of the project. What isn’t funded will be financed through a bank.

A public hearing on the matter brought forth a supporting comment for the project from a resident. With that, the commissioners approved the request. The county council approved a similar request last week.

McLoed added that if awarded construction would begin at the end of summer in 2018 with completion tentatively planned for Spring of 2019.
