The Culver Community Schools’ Band program will receive four years of financial assistance thanks to a generous donation from a local family who wishes to remain anonymous. The family agreed to provide $10,000 to the band this year and an additional $5,000 annually for the next three years.
Culver Community School Band Director Jason Crittendon explained that the money will be utilized for various things that will assist the students significantly such as instrument repairs that have been needed for some time but funds haven’t been available until now and new instruments that the school doesn’t currently own.
Another one of the potential purchases includes music chairs that are designed specifically to assist instrumentalists with posture and breathing.
He added that a small percentage of the donation will go into the uniform account. Though uniforms aren’t needed immediately, Crittendon expressed an interest in thinking proactively about where these funds could be best spent.
“When we are ready to get new uniforms, we’ll have some kind of down payment.” Crittendon said, “The uniforms we currently have are only about four years old so we’re not in need right now but in about 12 to 15 years from now
Director Crittendon shared that in his 21 years of teaching he has never had the opportunity to benefit from this type of unique situation. He was incredibly grateful to the donors, saying that especially around this time of year, it is important to realize and recognize the people and things within in the community that we can be thankful for.
The donation will be officially approved by the Culver Community School Board at the next board meeting on Monday, November 20th.
