The Marshall County Commissioners received a preliminary comprehensive bridge management plan Monday morning from Ben Beer, Business Development for USI Consultants.
“This is really in conjunction with what is now required by INDOT and LTAP. They have a Bridge Asset Management Plan. This is kind of used to support that document, but now if you want to go for Community Crossings money or other grant money every LPA county has to have a Bridge Asset Management Plan,” said Beer.
Beer stressed that the plan given to the commissioners is just a draft. It gives the commissioners and county council a possible funding mechanism and a prioritized list of bridge or culvert maintenance or replacement projects.
Beer mentioned that the county has 117 bridges in the county with four rated four or less. He said nine bridges are rated five or less.
“That list I gave you has nine river bridges on the replacement list. Two of those are active projects. You’ve got Hickory Road which is Bridge #81 and King Road which is Bridge #73. Purely just in terms of structural condition, Bridge #87 which is West 11th Road and Bridge #120 which is South Upas Road would be next on the priority list.”
The commissioners will review the list and work with the highway department and the county council to determine a plan of action.
