Crews with the Marshall County Highway Department are hoping to do more paving this year. Highway Supervisor Jason Peters was before the county council on Monday with a request for support of an additional appropriation for $300,000.
The additional appropriation has not been published yet so the council could not act on the request.
Administrator Laurie Baker said the money would come from the highway fund.
The council members did unanimously support the additional appropriation request. The council will act on it during their next meeting on Monday, Oct. 9.
Earlier in the meeting, the council unanimously approved a transfer of $300,000 from the stone, gravel and aggregate line item to the bituminous line item for future purchases in the event the council approves the additional appropriation to continue with the paving program. Peters said he hopes that crews can pave 7.5 to 8 miles of road with the transfer and the additional appropriation.
