Marshall County Highway Administrator Laurie Baker presented the commissioners with a contract between the county and DLZ concerning the Hickory Road bridge. The contract includes the construction inspection of the bridge and the off-site wetland mitigation. The commissioners did approve a contract with DLZ Engineering not to exceed $186,360.
Laurie Johnson from DLZ provided an update on the pre-construction on the Hickory Road Bridge project.
“All of the utilities that impact the mitigation site have submitted their work plans,” explained Johnson. “The NEPA environmental compliance has been approved and certified. All permits have been approved. The letting is Feb. 7, final tracings are due Oct. 30 and ready for contracts is Nov. 29.”
The design exception was approved so at some point county attorney James Clevenger will submit an ordinance to the commissioners that mandates the speed limit change in that area to 45 mph. The design specifications do not meet INDOT standards for 55 mph.
Construction will begin in the spring of 2018. A request was submitted to INDOT to request that the project be substantially complete and open to traffic by December 2018.
