Two Marshall County roads will be closed today so county highway crews can perform fog sealing operations.
Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the county commissioners on Monday that Overmyer Drive and Pioneer Drive recently underwent chip and seal road work and now the final fog seal will be applied that will help extend the condition of the road. Striping of the road will occur next week.
The roads will reopen as soon as the fog seal coating is dried. Peters suggested that it would take roughly two hours to properly seal.
A resident asked to move the pavement markings on Pioneer to allow for walking and biking on one side of the street. The idea was to narrow one lane to allow for a wider shoulder space for the recreation request. The commissioners commented that the shoulders are wide enough now with the placement of the regular striping pattern. Laurie Johnson from engineering firm DLZ commented that the road was paved with federal money and the shoulders were established based on design speed and the amount of traffic. She believed the request would not conform with the design criteria specified in the Indiana Design Manual. The commissioners decided against the request.
The commissioners passed along compliments from constituents who are happy with the work done by the highway department this year.
