Two recent high-school graduates are each heading off to college with 5,000 dollars thanks to a scholarship opportunity provided by the South Bend Cubs. The local recipients of the scholarship are Mattie Reese, a softball player from John Glenn High School and Andrew Samuelson, a baseball player from LaPorte High School.
When the application process opened back in April, the chairman and owner of the team, Andrew Berlin said the purpose of the scholarship was demonstrate support for local student athletes and to show the team’s commitment to future leaders of the region. The scholarship winners are being recognized at the South Bend Cubs home game tonight. The game begins at 7:05 p.m. ET at the Four Winds Field in downtown South Bend.
