Plymouth City Council Holds Public Hearings

The Plymouth City Council held two public hearings Monday night.

The Weir family requested the annexation of a portion of their property on Lake Ave. near the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. The company, Weir Enterprises, is developing a daycare on the south and west end of the property and they would like to separate the parcels so the house would be separate entity.

The house that sits on the property is actually on two different parcels and two different jurisdictions. Half of the house is in Plymouth and the other half is in the county. They would like to annex the eastern part of the house into the city limits. The home has a buyer and the Weirs plan to sell the home and keep the rest of the property for the daycare facility. Water and sewer utilities would need to be extended to the property for the new structure which would be an expense to the city, but other properties could hook up to the utilities if the area owners so choose.

There was no public comment made during the meeting.

The other public hearing involved the vacation of Miller Drive. CTE Properties, Inc. owns four lots in the tech farm subdivision. The owners plan to build a building to expand and an increase truck traffic is anticipated. A portion of the land identified as a cul-de-sac would be vacated by the city so the company can move forward with the project. The city has an easement for utilities but it was proposed that the company would grant that portion of land to the city in exchange for the vacation of the property.

There was no public comment made during the meeting.

Both ordinances were called as first readings by the city council members and will be discussed at the next council meeting on Monday, Aug. 28.
