The Marshall County Commissioners received an update on the progress on plans for a multi-purpose building to be built on the 4-H Fairgrounds in Argos.
Shannon McLeod with Priority Project Resources went over the paperwork and process for the proposed building that will act as a building to host many public events in the Marshall County area. The project has been scaled down to an 8,000 square foot building with a steel frame building. The interior will feature drywall and concrete flooring. It will accommodate a seating capacity up to 400 people.
The Marshall County 4-H Fair Association is submitting the application for a Community Development Block Grant through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs worth $500,000 to help fund the project. The association has collected $300,000 in match money, with $55,000 in cash donations through fundraisers, $30,000 in funds from the Marshall County Community Foundation and a bank loan of $215,000.
The commissioners unanimously approved a resolution that authorizes the application submission, local match commitment and the supporting memorandum of understanding between the county and the fair association, pending the fair association’s approval of the documentation.
The county will serve as a pass through for the grant opportunity. The county will have co-ownership of the building for seven years when constructed and provide the insurance costs to the building.
A public hearing on the fair housing ordinance and other information pertaining to this project is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the second floor meeting room of the Marshall County Building in Plymouth.
