The Marshall County Council members held a discussion on an additional appropriation request for continued maintenance at the Shady Rest Home.
The Shady Rest Home returned to the county’s care on Aug. 1 after The Bowen Center vacated the property.
Maintenance Director Doug Masterson told the county council that the buildings need to be winterized and the grounds will need care. The phones need to work to keep up the fire monitoring system and the basic utility costs. The request was for $20,000.
The maintenance will be taken care of by the county until another entity takes occupancy of the building.
The county council unanimously approved the request.
Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Plymouth City Police Department are monitoring the building as security was breached over the weekend. Masteron assured the council that the building is secure as the locks have been changed.
