The Culver Town Council will again discuss the proposal for the Culver Movie Theater to include as a town project in the Stellar Communities Designation Program.
The Culver Redevelopment Commission met on Monday, July 17 to consider a proposal from SRKM Architects, but ultimately rejected the project by a 3-2 vote.
The proposal outlined several actions the company could do to help the town reach a decision about how to proceed with the theater. A structural assessment would be included along with a business plan, a chance to set up a public hearing to gather comments on potential uses for the building, marketing plan, preliminary budget, and more. The cost would be $8,530.
The owner of the movie theater, Tom, has put up the building for sale. No other communication has been made with the town since the redevelopment commission’s decision last week.
It was suggested that a member of the CRC has a conflict of interest regarding any project not being considered on Main Street and not the overall outlook of economic development.
Council President Ginny Bess Munroe asked the council members if they would revisit the issue at the next meeting and they agreed to discuss it then.
