The Marshall County Commissioners will be putting together a committee to decide how to proceed in finding a way to occupy the Shady Rest Home in Plymouth.
Kurt Carlson from the Bowen Center announced in May that Shady Rest would be closing its doors as some of the new regulations do not fit the needs of the residents at their particular facility. He noted that efforts were being made at that time to transfer patients to family members, other nursing homes, other facilities that focus on mental health needs, or back to the community.
Carlson anticipates that the building will be returned to the county under the direction of the commissioners by the end of July.
The commissioners are hoping gather names of interested residents who would be able to brainstorm ideas on uses for the building. Ideally, the commissioners would like to welcome another non-profit agency with a focus on assisting the needs of the residents of Marshall County.
Commissioners Kevin Overmyer, Mike Delp and Kurt Garner will present names of candidates for the committee at their next meeting on Monday, June 19. To be considered for the committee, call any of the commissioners or notify Marshall County Auditor Julie Fox at (574) 935-8555.
