Traffic Stop Leads to Search Warrant and Drug Arrest

Indiana State Police Troopers arrested two people after a traffic stop turned into a more in-depth investigation.

A traffic stop was initiated by Indiana State Police troopers on Wednesday near LaPaz. Assistance was requested by the Plymouth Police Department K-9 and that K-9 reportedly indicated that drugs were in the vehicle. Police say methamphetamines, a handgun, scales and other drug paraphernalia were found in the car. The driver, Latisha Weaver/Nies-Scott, was booked into the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary charge of dealing methamphetamines over five grams with a firearm.

Police subsequently obtained a search warrant for her residence in the 11000 block of Lincolnway in Oscoela where officers reportedly found more methamphetamines, scales, a handgun, and drug paraphernalia.

Christopher Cavender of Rochester was at the residence during the search and he was taken into custody after he was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamines.

A child in the home was placed in the custody of the St. Joseph Child Protective Service.
