Plymouth City Council Approves Salary Ordinance Amendment

The Plymouth City Council members approved an ordinance that could help entice employees to apply for firefighter positions.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi presented a document for approval Monday night that would fix the salaries for fire personnel as well as police officers and appointed officers and employees.

It was up for first reading only but the city council members unanimously suspended the rules and it passed on second and third readings. Surrisi noted that moving the ordinance along would assist Plymouth Fire Chief Rod Miller in hiring new firefighters. Chief Miller told the council in previous settings that several firefighters have left the department and he is seeking to hire qualified candidates.

A full-time firefighter/EMT/paramedic is needed as well as a full-time firefighter/EMT. A job application and job description are available at the Plymouth Fire Department, 111 N. Center Street. The positions offer health insurance and many other benefits. For more information, call (574) 936-2156.
