With the inclement weather this week, water is rising in low lying areas.
Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery reminds residents to take action to protect homes that are in flood-prone areas.
“We do have sand and sand bags available for them at no charge if they need to put a sand bag perimeter around their property to keep their property and valuables safe. Sand and sand bags can be picked up on King Road just north of the Marshall County Highway Garage. They will just have to bring their own shovel.”
According to Avery, the Yellow River is forecast to crest at around 10.5 ft this morning, which is just below the “action” stage.
Avery urges drivers to watch for ponding on roadways. He says high water is especially hard to see at night. If you come upon a road with standing water, turn around and find a different route to your destination.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency recommends putting together an emergency supply kit with food, water, first aid supplies, medications, and a battery-operated radio.
