Representatives from Gibson Insurance presented renewal information during the Marshall County Commissioners meeting on Monday.
Brian Kubecki recommended the return of all carriers from the previous years. Kubecki indicated that the county will see an increase in this proposal.
“The overall cost increase is $30,281 on the four-year program,” explained Kubecki. “The total program, which includes our fees as well, is $513,352.”
One noticeable change was an increase in the flood deductible at the Marshall County Jail – it doubled.
“They’ve determined that it’s moved to a moderate hazard flood zone where it wasn’t in one before. The folks who do the flood maps have been adjusting those over the last couple of years who this is part of that adjustment. All that meant is that it increased the deductible for that building from $50,000 to $100,000.”
Kubecki noted that they are working with the county’s IT department to put in place a privacy liability.
“Madison County, at the beginning of November, had a ransomware attack where they had to spend about $21,000 in ransom for that. They spent weeks fixing links to city documents. The hackers look for soft targets that may have useful information or soft targets for other things. That’s something we recommend because that policy would pick up that ransom. We’re looking to put that in place as well.”
The commissioners unanimously approved Gibson’s Insurance renewal proposal. The renewal covers the next year of county operation.
