Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters updated the commissioners this week with work being done in the county.
Peters said his staff has been busy with ditching and berming in the county. He said the idea is to get this work done ahead of when they start road work this summer. Approximately 10 miles of road will go through this process. Peters mentioned that crack-sealing has taken place on a couple of roads.
“We did start on Plymouth-Goshen Trail and we’re starting at the city limits and going out to U.S. 30. We’re also planning on working on 9A Road from U.S. 31 to the city limits,” explained Peters.
The commissioners also approved a pre-payment of $44,500 to purchase tractor for the purpose of mowing. The highway department is hoping to get the mower soon so it can be sent to Tennessee in order to equip it for the county’s use before mowing season begins. Frames will be built in order to install a mower deck. According to Highway Department Group Leader Jerry Ambrose, an old-fashioned tractor is being purchased rather than a newer, lighter tractor.
“We’re having too much trouble with the compact utilities – doing what we want them to do,” said Ambrose. “The transmissions aren’t holding up. So, I went back to the older, stronger frames that take a little bit more of a beating and hopefully it will last longer than the other ones have lasted.”
Ambrose expects the tractor to be back in late May.
