Work continues on the new EMS and food pantry building in Bremen.
The building at 1237 Plymouth Street was purchased by the town last fall. Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy told MAX 98.3 FM News that the town council members had eyes on another building that would have been an investment of over $400,000, but acquired the current location after submitting the winning bid at an auction. Weldy said the purchase price was less than $200,000, which left room in the budget for necessary remodeling.
Weldy did specify that the money for the new building was budgeted for 2016.
The painting is finished on the food pantry portion of the newly acquired 10,800 square foot building and that operation is now fully functional.
Remodeling is being done on the portion of the building that will house the EMS department. The garage door is currently being modified to accommodate the storage of ambulance trucks.
Weldy said the town council will soon take bids for EMS service as the contract is nearly expired. He said the town is happy with the service that Tri County EMS provides, but will look for quotes from other companies.
