Hearing Scheduled for Lincoln Jr. High Project

The Plymouth School Board will hold a hearing in April to discuss the proposed construction of a new Lincoln Junior High School.

Superintendent Dan Tyree explained that two groups were previously contracted to tour the current facility and deemed it a priority for replacement. He said it’s just time to provide the students with a dependable facility in which to learn.

“It was built in 1923 and so right now you can’t get a lot of parts and if you do it’s expensive,” said Tyree. “It’s an expensive building to run.”

New construction of a new junior high school has been a part of the corporation’s strategic plan for several years.

The proposed new structure will be constructed on the eastern side of the current building on 220 N. Liberty Street. Board President Todd Samuelson noted that this project is overdue especially with the number of deficiencies in the building. He added that efforts will be made to retain the history of the old building.

The timing for the funding of this project will fall into place as financing of other building bonds will be complete. The impact on taxes to the taxpayers will be minimal, according to Samuelson.

No other information was released about the project as details including cost will be given during the hearing set for Monday, April 10 at 7 p.m. ET in the administration building. Superintendent Tyree highlighted the fact that this will be a different date and time the board will be meeting due to the scheduling of spring break.

The hearing is intended to be information only. The community will have an opportunity to voice opinions on the plans in public hearings yet to be announced.
