The Culver Town Council members will decide how to split up responsibilities concerning the duties surrounding work for the Stellar Communities application when they meet with the Culver Redevelopment Commission next week.
Assignments will also need to be divided among the panel if the town is awarded the distinction of being a Stellar Community.
Council President Ginny Bess Munroe explained to the council last night that there are a number of new projects and enhancements to this year’s application which is too much for Town Manager Jonathan Leist to singly undertake. Munroe said deadline dates for the letter of intent, application, and site visits have been pushed back due to timeline conflicts. The letter of intent to apply is the next deadline which is at the end of April.
Munroe added that more volunteers are being sought to be a part of this project so more input can be made and more work can be shifted to alleviate the work load for the council members.
Leist did report the results of the survey needed for the application. He said support of a movie theatre was at the top of the list followed by housing options and park projects. A total of 166 online responses were received and nine written surveys were submitted.
Culver was close to winning the designation of Stellar Community last year, but the honor was awarded to Corydon. The purpose of the Stellar Communities Designation Program is to recognize Indiana’s smaller communities that have identified comprehensive community and economic development projects and activities in addition to a plan and key partnerships.
The Culver Town Council plans to meet with the Culver Redevelopment Commission on Monday, March 20 at 4 p.m. at the Culver Town Hall.
