The Town of Culver is looking for members for various committees, and may consider offering money as an incentive. During last week’s town council meeting, Town Manager Jonathan Leist proposed a $20-per-meeting stipend for members of the plan commission and board of zoning appeals.
He mentioned a recent plan commission meeting, in which a public hearing was scheduled and advertised, only to be postponed due to a lack of a quorum. Leist added that the nine-member plan commission has only had seven members for much of 2016.
A Democrat is needed to fill one of those seats. However, a greater challenge is finding town employees willing to serve on the plan commission.
Under Leist’s proposal, the stipends would be paid out of the town’s building permit revenues. Council members discussed whether there’s enough money there to cover the proposed stipends, or whether $20 is a large enough incentive to fill the positions. Council President Ginny Bess Munroe wants to hold a work session to further explore the issue.
According to Culver’s website, the town’s also looking for members for its Redevelopment Commission and Tree Commission. Those interested must email a letter of interest to Culver’s clerk-treasurer by Monday, January 9 at 4 p.m.
