Marshall County is preparing to start some of its road projects after being awarded with Community Crossings grant funds.
During Tuesday morning’s Marshall County Commissioners meeting, Highway Supervisor Jason Peters says that the companies tasked with the work have given verbal indications they’re ready to begin.
Peters says all of the roads under the project list are pretty highly traveled.
“Union Road going into Ancilla,” says Peters. “Everyone knows that one is pretty busy and Fur Road from Bremen to 30, that’s pretty highly traveled too. So the sooner we can let people know the better off I think we’ll be.”
Marshall County was provided with $1-million in special Local Option Income Tax distributions. They used those funds to provide a match for the Community Crossings program and were ultimately rewarded with an additional $1-million through that program.
Estimated project costs checked in around $1.95-million. That leaves a bit of room for overages or unexpected expenses.
Peters says nothing goes to the precise penny.
“Anything that goes over on the grant I think everybody is aware that is also paid out of our local,” says Peters. “That was the whole idea of staying under that $2-million or at $2-million. Because anything over and above would be paid out of the county.”
Marshall County attempted to divide the projects evenly among area contractors.
Peters says he believes all of the projects will be completed by the end of November. Work is expected to begin as soon as Marshall County gives the contractors the go ahead.
