Culver Schools See Enrollment Drop

Culver-Community-School-CorporationDeclining enrollment continues to be a challenge for the Culver Community Schools Corporation.

Interim Superintendent Chuck Kitchell says the numbers haven’t officially been submitted to the state yet, but last Friday’s student count revealed a notable drop. “I believe our number is at 780, which is down close to 50 kids from last year,” he says. “So we took a hit again.”

The Culver School Board held a public hearing Monday on the proposed 2017 budget, capital projects plan, and bus replacement plan. During the hearing, Treasurer Casey Howard discussed each of those with board members.

Kitchell says enrollment will continue to impact the corporation’s budget going forward, “Of course, when your ADM count keeps going down, your budget’s going to keep going down, so we’ve got to continue to deal with those issues.”

Budget adoption is scheduled for October 17.
