The Marshall County Commissioners have approved a subdivision plan that they hope will make it easier for future development along Nutmeg Road.

A plat was presented to the Commissioners during their meeting Tuesday morning showing the plans. The land lies along Nutmeg Road between 11th and 12th Road in Marshall County. Plans have required approval from both the Marshall County government and the City of Plymouth.

Plan Commission Director Ralph Booker says there has been a small change since the plat was initially submitted.

“We went through our Technical Review Committee,” says Booker. “Originally, this plat had a 20-foot right-of-way on the West side of the road. The suggestion was to increase it to 30 so that has been placed on the plat.”

The subdivision arose out of a home sale. Prior to selling the house – which came along with 30 acres – the owner decided to parcel off the land, selling their home with just more than six acres.

Subdividing the land, however, may bring with it some additional development. To compensate for this, the Marshall County Technical Review Committee and Plan Commission, and the Plymouth Plan Commission, recommended the right-of-way expansion.

Booker says that is expected to ease some future headache as the area begins to grow.

“The idea is that as we get these plats in, that we can get more right-of-way so we don’t have to buy it in the future in case we want to expand Nutmeg Road,” says Booker.

One resident who happens to live on Nutmeg Road initially protested the right-of-ways’ location, but several questions later better understood the proposal.

The Marshall County Commissioners approved the plat unanimously. It now goes to the City of Plymouth for further consideration.
