Plans are now progressing for an eventual move of the Marshall County Health Department.

The idea has been discussed for a few years, but received approval by the Marshall County Council last week. During Monday morning’s County Commissioners meeting, a contract was presented that will lead to preliminary design and construction documents for the move.

Commissioner Kurt Garner says there’s a cost breakdown that needed review.

“It’s working out to $3,500 for preliminary design and construction documents and then $1,000 for the construction administration,” says Garner.

The lump sum was initially anticipated to come out of the Marshall County Health Department’s budget. The Commissioners would cover the administration costs out of their budget. The contract would be entered into with SRKM Architecture out of Warsaw.

Officials with Marshall County were aware reshuffling some of its department’s would have a cost. The move allows for the Marshall County Prosecutor’s office to expand its offices – something that has been a continual process over the last several years. The Health Department would use space at the Community Resource Center.

Designs will require approval prior to construction work. The Commissioners approved the contract request, unanimously.
