The City of Plymouth is making the funding arrangements for new tennis courts in Centennial Park. Last month, the Common Council voted to contribute additional funds to the tennis court rebuilding project. On Monday, council members voted to formally transfer that money into the Tennis Court Project Fund.
$189,000 is coming out of the Cumulative Capital Improvement Fund, while $165,000 is being taken from the Cumulative Capital Development Fund. Once that money was placed in the Tennis Court Project Fund, the council then voted to appropriate that money for the project, along with the $500,000 contributed by the Plymouth Community School Corporation and the $132,777 in private donations raised by the Plymouth Tennis Club. That appropriation of nearly $1 million is in addition to the $750,000 the city pledged last year for the project.
Unlike previous discussions about the project, the funding arrangements were passed without any debate Monday. No members of the public offered any comments during a public hearing on the additional appropriation.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi said Park Board President Dave Morrow plans to sign the contract with Michiana Contracting as soon as the appropriation is approved by the state. The park board would then ratify the contract at its next meeting. Surrisi says the goal is to start construction as soon as possible.
