The Culver School Board will get an update this evening on efforts to sell the Monterey School Building. The school corporation has decided to put the former school on the Indiana Department of Education’s unused building list, which is a required step before the building can be sold.
That gives potential charter schools the chance to lease the building. Normally, unused school buildings have to stay on the list for two years before they can be sold, but Culver Schools has planned to pursue a waiver to speed up that process.
Also during tonight’s meeting, the school board will officially approve a new logo, after a fundraising campaign raised the $6,000 required to pay for the corporation’s re-branding effort. It’s seen as a way for the corporation to control its image and potentially attract more families, at a time when per-student funding from the state has dropped.
The school board will also decide whether to approve the 2016-2017 School Calendar. When it was presented to school board members at the last meeting, interim superintendent Chuck Kitchell said the school’s staying with the balanced calendar concept, with the only notable change being an adjustment to the scheduling of parent-teacher conferences next school year.
Additionally, updates to the corporation’s bylaws and policies will be brought to a first reading tonight.
The school board meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Culver School Administration Building.
