Culver School Board Formally Approves Removal of Assistant Principal Position

Culver-Community-School-CorporationThe Culver School Board voted Monday to formalize an administrative cut begun last month. In January, the school board decided to issue a preliminary notice that they were considering the non-renewal of Julie Berndt’s contract as Elementary School assistant principal/Title 1 director.

This week, board members took the next step, by officially deciding not to renew Berndt’s contract when it ends at the end of the school year.

The corporation is turning to staff cuts in order to deal with a shortfall in the corporation’s General Fund. School board member Jack Jones expressed his frustration with the measures he and the other board members find themselves taking, “I don’t even know what to say to Julie when I see her. I know I’ve known her since she started at Monterey, when the kids came out of there, as the principal. It sucks, it really does.”

The school board approved the contract non-renewal, unanimously.
