Coroner Confirms Toddler’s Cause of Death

A Plymouth toddler who was unconscious when her mother brought her to a local hospital Friday morning died of blunt force trauma Saturday night at a Fort Wayne Hospital. A spokeswoman for the Allen County Coroner’s Office tells MAX 98.3 FM News 2-year-old Serenity Wilson’s death has been classified as a homicide. Investigators say the injury occurred earlier in the day.

Plymouth Police were called to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center around 2:30 p.m. Friday because the child was unconscious with a head injury. She was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, where she was pronounced dead Saturday night.

Plymouth Police arrested 20-year-old Shane Weeding on neglect of a dependent and possession of marijuana charges after investigating the incident. Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney Nelson Chipman advises he’s pursuing additional leads with investigators from the Plymouth Police Department and intends to host a news conference later this week to announce new developments.
