Add Saving a Life to Your Summer To-Do List

According to a survey recently conducted by the American Red Cross, more than 40 percent of regular donors will be traveling during the weeks prior to and following Independence Day. This is an indicator that these people will be less likely to donate. The American Red Cross is urging all eligible individuals to step up and help out to avoid a summer shortage.

Anyone who donates the week of July 2 through July 6 will receive a Red Cross embroidered baseball cap while supplies last. The Red Cross is looking for donations from all blood types, but O negative, A negative and B negative are especially needed.

Director of National Partnerships with American Red Cross Bio-medical Services, Donna Morrisey suggests that people add a blood or platelet donations to their vacation to-do list. “It’s a simple act, taking as little as an hour, but can touch so many lives.” Morrisey said in a press release.

The work of the American Red Cross never ends, and neither does their need for blood donations. The Red Cross depends on the generosity of individuals who volunteer their time to help others in need. Check to see if there are any donation drives scheduled near where you and your family are vacationing.
