Community Table of Marshall County Addresses Flooding Relief Efforts
County and city officials, along with other departments and organizations focused on disaster relief efforts met Monday morning to address needs. It’s been a community effort and all leaders commented that the community’s response has been overwhelming. Those attending offered several pieces of information to help those picking up after the damage.
Webster Center Available As Emergency Shelter for Flood Victims
Those displaced by this week’s floods can take emergency shelter at the Webster Center in Plymouth. City officials say cots, food, and shower facilities are available. Transportation is also available upon request.

The Red Cross Blood Mobile will be stationed at Culver Middle/High School from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. ET on Thursday, January 11th.

Indiana’s lieutenant governor is calling on Hoosiers to donate blood, to help communities impacted by hurricanes. Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch says Hurricane Irma is expected to have a widespread impact like Hurricane Harvey, and blood supplies are already low.
Blood Donations Desperately Needed
Blood supplies are at critical levels at the local hospitals and the American Red Cross is asking for your help to replenish the inventory.
Red Cross officials say that only three percent of the U.S. population gives blood, which means repeat donors are picking up the slack to help maintain the blood supply. New blood donors are needed at this time of the year when school is out during the summer break. Many blood drives occur during the school year and it is difficult to plan donation drives during the summer vacation.

Monetary Donations Best to Help Natural Disaster Victims
The best way to help victims of the natural disasters like the Kokomo tornadoes or the catastrophic Baton Rouge flooding is to contribute financially to a reputable charity. The American Red Cross estimates flood recovery efforts will cost nearly $30 million. As of Monday they had only received $7.8 million in donations and pledges. Red Cross volunteers are already in central Indiana providing emergency services in the aftermath of yesterday’s tornadoes.
