County Officials Honor Retiring Merit Board Members

Two retiring merit board officers were honored this week for their dedicated years of service to Marshall County.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Captain Dan Butts presented plaques to Dr. Jim Bottorff and Orion “Bud” Treat who served on the Marshall County Merit Board for 44 years apiece. The recognition ceremony was held during the Marshall County Commissioners meeting on Monday.

The merit board governs the sheriff’s office and takes care of the hiring and discipline of officers.

Former Sheriff John Vanvactor and current council member stated that the pair are just a part of the reason the jail is how it is today. Dr. Bottorff and Mr. Treat were both commended for their efforts on behalf of members of the board and sheriff’s office.
