Six local fire departments will get a collective $800,000 worth of new equipment, thanks to a federal grant. They were awarded a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant for the purchase of 125 new air packs, plus a spare bottle for each, according to Walkerton Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Hamilton.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal accident in the area of US 6 and Quince Road.
According to the crash report, 74-year-old Philip Braun was driving a white Chevy flatbed truck behind 69-year-old Judith Masterson who was traveling in a silver Buick Century. They were both going westbound on US 6. Continue reading
A Walkerton man was taken to the hospital Monday after reportedly driving a pickup truck into a rural Marshall County home. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department says it happened around 7:20 a.m. in the 1500 block of Tamarack Road near Walkerton. According to the incident report, the pickup went off the roadway and proceeded to go “completely through the house.” Continue reading
