The recent sale of 415 Lakeshore Drive could help jumpstart an unsafe building fund for the Town of Culver. The town had to tear down what was left of the former City Tavern building after a fire in October of 2019. The proceeds from last month’s sheriff’s sale will reimburse the town’s demolition costs and other charges.

The Argos Town Council voted last week to start legal proceedings on three potentially unsafe properties. Town officials reported that the owners of 118 North Maple Street had begun moving some stuff away, but many parts of the property were still full of trash.

At last week’s Bourbon Town Council meeting, the council members heard from Zoning and Building Superintendent Bill Keyser about a few structures in town that fall under the vacant and unsafe building ordinance.
Clerk-Treasurer Kimberly Berger explained that there were some limitations before anything could be done, such as notifying the owners and giving them a certain amount of time to respond. Continue reading

Culver continues work to bring Town policy into alignment with a recently adopted Marshall County ordinance.
During Tuesday night’s Culver Town Council meeting, Attorney Jim Clevenger provided updates on the development of Culver’s version of the unsafe buildings ordinance. The changes provide that a hearing board will be set-up to remedy problematic situations with property owners in the event a structure is deemed unsafe.
