Stellar Communities Designation Program Widens Scope to Encourage Regional Collaboration

Once geared toward individual towns and cities, the Stellar Community Designation Program will now be asking communities to come together to propose regional development plans.

The Stellar Community program, which is offered through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, will now focus on encouraging towns, cities and counties to form partnerships to develop comprehensive solutions to regional and local challenges throughout rural Indiana.

Walkerton-Lincoln Township Public Library Project is Underway

Walkerton-Lincoln Township Public Library Director Traci Stewart said that ground breaking at the site for the new library took place earlier this month. However, in the next few weeks, construction will become more visible since work below the surface has been completed and now crews can begin working on things above ground.

Stewart said that foundation footings have already been installed, as well as drainage lines and a sewage system. She said this week, construction crews from the Elkhart based company Brown and Brown will be pouring the floors and putting up walls. Continue reading

Marshall County 4-H Fair Board Association Approves Agreement with County

A subrecipient agreement was approved and signed by members of the Marshall County 4-H Fair Board Association this week. The agreement is between the fair board and the Marshall County Commissioners that outlines the responsibilities of ownership and funding associated with a proposed multi-use building to be constructed on the fairgrounds in Argos.

The proposed structure is an 8,000 square foot steel frame building that will feature drywall and concrete flooring. It will accommodate a seating capacity up to 400 people. There will be 4,400 square feet of open space to hold wedding receptions or other large gatherings, a 30-person meeting room in the front of the building and regular building features such as a kitchenette and restrooms.

Commissioners Review Multi-Purpose Building Plans

The Marshall County Commissioners received an update on the progress on plans for a multi-purpose building to be built on the 4-H Fairgrounds in Argos.

Shannon McLeod with Priority Project Resources went over the paperwork and process for the proposed building that will act as a building to host many public events in the Marshall County area. The project has been scaled down to an 8,000 square foot building with a steel frame building. The interior will feature drywall and concrete flooring. It will accommodate a seating capacity up to 400 people.

Fair Board Seeks Grant to Construct Community Building

A public hearing was held during the Marshall County Commissioners meeting on Monday to hear comments on the proposed construction of a community building to be constructed on the 4-H Fairgrounds in Argos.

Shannon McLeod, a grant writer from Priority Project Resources, is assisting the Marshall County Fair Board  in obtaining a federal grant to build the structure.  The building would be used as a meeting place, wedding reception hall or any other type of use by the community.  Continue reading
