Suspicious Backpack Leads to Warrant Arrest

A man was arrested on a warrant for attempted manufacture of methamphetamine after a suspicious backpack was found in his car after an accident.

Brandon Adkins, 29, was injured in the accident on Michigan Road near 3rd Road on Sunday afternoon and was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment.

Marshall County deputies conducted a routine search of his vehicle and they found a suspicious backpack, according to a news release. The Indiana State Police Methamphetamine Suppression Team was called to process the contents of the backpack. Marshall County Superior Court No. 1 Judge Robert O. Bowen reviewed a probable cause affidavit and a warrant was issued for Adkins’ arrest.

Horse Saddle Theft Reported in Bremen

Marshall County detectives received a report of stolen horse saddles from a stable at a residence north of Bremen on Oct. 13.

The theft occurred during the day in the 800 Elm Road on Monday. Officers had a report of suspicious persons at the stable during the time of the theft led officers to an address in Starke County.

A suspect was located and questioned regarding the theft. Shane Querry was arrested and was booked into the Marshall County Jail on the charge.

Burglary Incident under Investigation

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a burglary that occurred Friday morning in the 7000 block or Redwood Road.

Police say some unknown person(s) used a small metal tabled to break a window in order to get into the residence. The suspect(s) reportedly stole a 32” television and a mount for the television. No other items were missing, but it appeared the suspect(s) went through drawers in the kitchen and in the bedroom, according to a news release.

Semi Driver Treated After Single Vehicle Wreck

accidentA semi driver from Harvey, Ill. was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for evaluation after his truck jackknifed Monday afternoon. The wreck occurred at the intersection of King Road and U.S. 30 at 1:16 p.m., according to a Marshall County Sheriff’s Department news release. Edward Tripp Jr., was turning onto King Road from 30 when the crash occurred. The fuel tank of his 2007 International semi was damaged, and fuel leaked onto the roadway. The Plymouth Fire Department assisted with the cleanup.

 

 

Two Arrested after Providing False Information to Police

Two Plymouth residents were arrested on Saturday morning after allegedly lying to the police after an accident.

A Marshall County sheriff’s deputy was called to the scene on Glenn-Overmyer Drive where he talked to those involved in the accident. Miranda Smith, 19, told police that she didn’t realize that the vehicle in front of her stopped and she ran into the back of the car. Smith told the officer that two women left the other car and got into another car and left the area.

Property Tax Scam Reported in Marshall County

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has received phone calls from Culver residents about a property tax scam.

Phone calls are being made to Culver residents where the caller tells the victim that a property tax payment has not been made, a lien has been placed on the property and officers are on the way with an arrest warrant. Some calls are made with a human caller and others are automated.

North Liberty Woman Dies in Accident

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an accident that resulted in a fatality Wednesday night.

According to police, Melissa Newcomb, 29 of North Liberty, was southbound on Tamarack Road and approached 4B Road when she entered the intersection without stopping.  Her vehicle left the roadway and struck a concrete pillar.

The Polk Township Fire Department extricated her from the vehicle and was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Hospital in Plymouth where she later died.

Toxicology test results are pending through the Marshall County Coroner.  The accident is still under investigation.
