School Board Candidate Filing Deadline Approaches
Those interested in running for a school board seat in Marshall County have a few more weeks to file their paperwork with the County Clerk’s Office. Candidates have until Friday, August 26 at noon to register, according to Marshall County Clerk Debbie VanDeMark. Continue reading
John Glenn Students to Make up Missed Days
Students at the John Glenn School Corporation will be making up days missed due to snow and unsafe road conditions.
Superintendent Richard Reese told Max 98.3 FM News that one day was made up on Jan. 19 and three more days built into the calendar will be used as make up days. Those days are Feb. 13, April 3 and April 6. If inclement weather causes any more school closures, any days missed will be added to the end of the school year.
As previously announced, the school board built five days into the 2015-2016 school calendar to be used as snow days.
Marshall County Safety Commission Discusses Blocked Railroad Crossings
The Marshall County Safety Commission heard concerns about trains stopped at crossings which creates an issue when buses are transporting students to and from school.
Cindy King from the John Glenn School Corporation said there are at least three instances a week where a train blocks a bus route for buses transporting students to school. She said a new route will have to be constructed for next year.
Indiana State Police officers and Marshall County Sheriff Tom Chamberlin both indicated that they have talked with Norfolk Southern and CSX officials and the issues are getting better. Several tickets have been written to the engineers to help curb the issue.
