The Damore Amphitheater that overlooks Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver will be the focus of the community tonight as the grand opening celebration kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET in the Culver-Union Township Park.

Bourbon Town Council members received a project proposal from architect Brent Martin and Habitat for Humanity Representatives Dean Byers and David Dinius when they met on Tuesday.
Draft minutes indicate that the men spoke with the council members about Project H.O.M.E, which is an acronym where each letter stands for Housing, Opportunities, Medical and Education. The large-scale Culver sign at the Culver Town Park will be replaced by the time WinterFest begins on Friday, Feb. 9.
Park Superintendent Anna Campbell told the Culver Town Council members this week that the sign spelling out C-U-L-V-E-R will go in the same place where the plywood sign is now. A mock-up placard that describes the history of the name of the Lake Maxinkuckee town will be included next to the sign until a more concrete structure an be constructed.
Now that most of the funds for the Lake Maxinkuckee Amphitheater have been gathered, officials can move forward with making the plan a reality.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist told the town council last week that the plans for the construction phase of the project will be presented this week. Construction may begin in October of this year and be complete in April of 2018.
The crowdfunding effort for a proposed amphitheater in the Culver Town Park was a success.
A little over $45,000 was gathered in the fundraising campaign. The opportunity was put forward in order to get an Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority matching grant of $30,000 toward the project. The project also has grant support from the Marshall County Community Foundation in the amount of $25,000. The estimated cost of the project is $143,000.
It was announced Monday morning that the Town of Culver is part of a crowdfunding campaign to gather funds to build an amphitheater in the Culver Town Park.
The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) is partnering with the town in this effort where the agency will match $30,000 if the town can raise $30,000 toward the project. The town has until June 30 to round up donations. About a third of it has been collected so far.
