Plymouth High School Student Organizes Second 5K Against Domestic Violence

One Plymouth High School Senior is doing her part to make her community safer by organizing the second Marshall County 5K Against Domestic Violence. Loren Mattern decided to put together this event to honor the memory of Serenity Wilson, a local two-year-old girl who lost her life in September of 2015, after being beaten unconscious by a person who was considered to be a ‘family friend’.

The event will take place on October 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Young Amphitheater located at the corner of Baker St. and Randolph St in Centennial Park. Continue reading

Heminger House “Brake the Cycle of Violence” Benefit

Heminger Logo colorAccording to the Center for Women and Families, within this country more than 3 women are murdered by their significant other on a daily basis. The Center also reports that studies suggest up to 10 million children are exposed to domestic violence annually. Statistics about domestic abuse are disheartening and hard to hear, but the truth of the matter is these things are happening. Domestic Violence Centers Receive Additional Funds

An additional $1.2 million was approved for domestic violence centers by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute’s Victim Services Subcommittee and a portion of that money will benefit local centers.

Domestic Violence Treatment and Prevention Council members reviewed the domestic violence shelters’ budgets and plans on how they would utilize immediate assistance and short term support to victims of domestic violence.
