During the city council’s budget discussion Monday, Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver said the 2021 budget proposal currently calls for an $8.7 million General Fund. But the amount of revenue is expected to fall far short of that.

The Culver School Board has finalized preparations for the new school funding structure. Starting January 1, each school corporation’s General Fund will be replaced by an Education Fund, while the Capital Projects, Transportation, and Bus Replacement Funds will be combined into an Operations Fund.
Culver School Board Accepts Donation for BPA Chapter, Approves Budget Transfers
The Culver School Board cleaned up a couple bookkeeping items when it met Monday. Treasurer Casey Howard said that the Special Education Grant wouldn’t be enough to cover costs. She explained that the grant application was turned in before teacher contract negotiations wrapped up and didn’t take into account a pay increase that ended up being included.
Marshall County Council Approves Rainy Day Fund Transfer
The Marshall County Council members approved a transfer of money to the Rainy Day Fund last week.
Auditor Julie Fox said the council is able to transfer 10 percent of the total of all county budgets from the General Fund to the Rainy Day Fund. She noted that the 2018 budget is just under $25 million and she felt comfortable with the transfer of an amount between $1 million and $1.5 million. Continue reading
Argos School Board Approves Contracts and Additional Appropriation
When the Argos School Board met last week Superintendent Ned Speicher presented the board with a review of the potential reimbursements allowed to the general fund for the past five years. He said that $200,000 worth of funds have been collected through various education sales over the years and up until now it has been in a savings account.
In order for that money to be spent, it had to be transferred from savings to checking. However, Superintendent Speicher mentioned that the money most likely won’t be used but it’s good to have it available, should the need arise. The board unanimously approved the additional appropriation to be added to the 2017 general fund. Continue reading
Culver Community School Board Adopts 2018 Budget
The Culver Community School Board adopted the 2018 budget when they met Monday evening. Superintendent Karen Shuman stated that their budget is in line with their enrollment and all accounts are in good standing.
Superintendent Shuman also said their taxation will remain status quo and representatives of the school corporation are hoping that the new housing being developed in the community will boost enrollment which would increase revenue and allow for the school to offer more programs to Culver Community students.
